Constructing Excellence

The Berrows House project is being delivered under our framework with the University of Worcester. The works comprise a new redevelopment of the former Worcester News Building to create a new, state-of-the-art teaching and learning facility centre to educate the next generation of healthcare professionals.

We have implemented low and zero-carbon technologies throughout the build in line with the university’s environmental and sustainability criteria. With only a few weeks to go to PC the facility has achieved its EPC ‘A’ rating and is on track to achieve a SKA rating of Gold.

We have also achieved over £4 million Pounds, (over 30% of the contract value) worth of Social Value on this scheme so far, giving back to the local community in and around Worcestershire. This project has exceeded the targets set at the beginning of the scheme and will look to continue on the great achievement up until completion. Many of the teams Social Value initiatives have been wholeheartedly embraced by the whole team.

The Building envelope will certainly be seen as notable and similar the University’s ‘Hive’ building, uniquely utilises the Gold ‘Tecu’ cladding as a standout feature. The collaborative nature of the project team was epitomised by the numerous design and progress workshops held with the Clients representative, construction team and key supply chain.

The building was delivered on time, through the COVID pandemic achieving the expected quality standards in each of the packages. The buildings’ external works were married in with the externals from both the Garage refit project and the Southern Campus infrastructure project, both being delivered by Stepnell.

Three Winning Facts:
  1. Berrows House has achieved EPC ‘A’ a notable achievement for an existing building that has been remodelled.
  2. Over £4m social value delivered throughout the Berrows House Scheme so far with principals now adopted by the University for future schemes.
  3. Building envelope looks fantastic using the Tecu product and this in itself is an example of the team’s collaboration to get over the challenges we faced.
