The Government’s Call for Evidence on a Strategy for the Built Environment Professions, Trades and Occupations closes on 12 August 2026 and will inform a new national strategy aimed at strengthening skills, competence, accountability and professional standards across the sector.
A new report from Constructing Excellence and BRE Academy will form the basis of our response. BRE Academy is a leading provider of built environment training and professional development. The report uses evidence from a roundtable bringing together representatives from industry, professional bodies, educators and skills organisations, alongside a survey of Constructing Excellence members.
The findings point to a clear message: the sector’s challenges go beyond workforce numbers alone. Participants consistently highlighted the need for a more holistic approach to competence, combining technical knowledge, practical experience and professional behaviours, supported by continuous learning and a culture that rewards quality, collaboration and accountability.
The government’s strategy for the built environment professions will shape the sector for years to come. Constructing Excellence members with views on professional competence, workforce development, skills, behaviours and industry can respond to the Call for Evidence before the deadline of 11:59pm on 12 August 2026.
