Some of the key challenges facing the built environment are around climate change adaption and mitigation in the face of increased rainfall, higher wind speeds, extreme cold, overheating, more frequent storms and rising sea and river levels. This meeting of the Constructing Excellence Sustainability Theme Group will focus on how we can create and maintain a built environment that is resilient to the effects climate change, with expert contributions from the Highways Agency, the BRE Centre for Resilience and Polypipe.

1.15pm: Resilience session:
- Dean Kerwick-Chrisp, the Highways Agency – managing climate change risk as a major infrastructure client
- Dr Stephen Garvin, the BRE Centre for Resilience – identifying the critical issues that need to be addressed for a resilient built environment
- Phil Henry, Polypipe – designing practical solutions with an allowance for climate change built in
