Research perspectives on Safety Culture

Working in collaboration with ARCOM (Association of Researchers in Construction Management), Constructing Excellence will provide a valuable forum for the exchange of knowledge and ideas between academic researchers and industry practitioners.

Join us for the first session on the research around Safety Culture led by Dr Emmanuel Aboagye-Nimo, Senior Lecturer in Construction Management, Birmingham City University (staff profile: Dr Emmanuel Aboagye-Nimo), which will take place on Thursday 28th May.

Overview

The missing voices in safety

During the call Dr Emmanuel Aboagye-Nimo will explore how safety in construction is often framed through standardized policies that overlook the realities of smaller firms, even though they make up a significant part of the industry. Drawing on his previous work, Dr Aboagye-Nimo will argue that while we claim to collaborate across the sector, the real question is whether we collaborate on all safety issues. By excluding the voices and practices of small firms, we risk creating frameworks that are incomplete and less effective. True improvement in safety requires inclusive collaboration that embraces the ambiguities and lived experiences of every part of the industry, not just the largest players.

This event provides Constructing Excellence National members with CPD in partnership with BRE Academy.
