Oxford United are taking significant steps to becoming a sustainable club and have set out ambitions to embed ESG at the heart of their decision making and future plans for the club. Supported by the Sustainability Team at Ridge, Oxford United have taken the decision to map out a low carbon strategy for the operations of the club, embedding a sustainability framework into the design, construction and operation of their new stadium and become a signatory to the UN Sports for Climate Action Framework.
Using an ESG Framework, the club has set out plans to deliver a state-of-the-art stadium with strong focus on a net zero approach and working with the community. The club will use a low-carbon energy supply to create an ‘all electric’ stadium, with power also generated by solar panels. In line with their Net Zero Strategy the proposed 16,000 capacity stadium, will not use any high carbon intensity fossil fuels such as gas. Renewable energy sources, including 3000m² of solar panels on the roof, along with energy efficiency measures will achieve radical carbon emission reductions.
By joining the UN Sports for Climate Action Framework, the club has underlined its dedication to playing its part to ensure the sports sector achieves a low-carbon future. The club is committed to halving its carbon emissions by 2030 and achieving net-zero by 2040.
