Don Ward writes: “Constructing Excellence is deeply saddened to hear the news of David Bucknall’s death when out cycling over the weekend. As I frequently told people, David was a legend of our industry, and one of the most vocal and committed champions of collaborative working that the sector has had. He will be sorely missed, and our thoughts are with his family, friends and colleagues – including those associated with Rider Levett Bucknall, the company that still bears his name, Acivico and Built Environment Hub where he remained chairman, and others such as CWC where he also served in that role. I had the pleasure of serving with him on two of these boards, as well as speaking after him on many platforms, and no-one could match his passion for the industry and its need for change. He was also such good fun to be with. This is a sad day.”
12/6: David’s family have confirmed that his funeral will take place on Tuesday 23rd June at 1.00 pm at Alvestson Church (near Stratford upon Avon). There will also be a service of memorial in Birmingham in September. The family know that a lot of people will want to attend and have said that everyone is welcome to either the funeral or the memorial, but the Church in Alveston is not huge and will be reserved for close family and friends. Therefore if people attend they may be standing, or not even be able to get into the Church. The wake will be in the local pub – which is big. The family’s advice is that the funeral is for people who are mourning David and the memorial is for those who want to show their respect. Meanwhile the family would welcome any photographs of David – particularly old photos – and also any anecdotes or stories. If you would like to send your condolences, or a photograph or anecdote, we will be happy to provide you with the appropriate contact details.
