AM are BIM experts, utilising the latest digital engineering technology to deliver efficient MEP design and coordination solutions. Our organisational approach is forward thinking and customer focused, utilising both the latest technologies and building strong relationships with multidisciplinary teams to optimise the design and coordination process, helping our clients to improve efficiently, reduce clashes and save money.
We have developed a process to deliver a fully coordinated BIM model and clash detection service. This approach was first applied to a technology retail store fit out, in an existing, structurally challenging building. The structure was irregular, with non-standard angles and multiple level changes – posing risks for traditional MEP installation approaches.
Our innovation lies in combining advanced BIM coordination with immersive technologies like augmented and virtual reality. This allows not only thorough clash detection but also real-time engagement with on-site teams, who can walk through the installation environment virtually, offer feedback, and directly influence design decisions through their expertise.
The results have been significant across multiple projects: we resolve thousands of clashes ahead of installation, avoiding costly rework, and dramatically improving communication between designers and installers. This approach goes beyond standard federated modelling in Navisworks by enhancing visualisation, considering buildability and maintainability, and incorporating the wisdom of the on-site engineers.
Three Winning Facts:
- Developed a novel combination of technologies, including AR/VR to integrate real-time feedback from installers, improving buildability and future maintainability on design projects.
- Through a “proof of concept” real world project we resolved thousands of potential clashes virtually pre-construction, saving tens of thousands in rework costs.
- We have embedded this approach as a standard offering, creating scalable workflows and influencing wider sector adoption through informal information sharing and coaching to other organisations in our sector.
