The benefits of a proven team to deliver BIOS, a modern Life Sciences hub

Constructing Excellence

BIOS is a high-quality, state-of-the-art science facility at the heart of Teesside University’s Middlesbrough campus.

Supporting the University’s thriving School of Health & Life Sciences, the new building consolidates multiple departments across campus into a four-storey building of cutting-edge lab space for subjects including anatomy, imaging, microbiology, chemistry, earth sciences and food science with state-of-the-art health teaching facilities including OSCE suites, operating theatres and immersive suites.

The BREEAM Outstanding build was designed and delivered by lead contractor Wates, architect Faulkner Brown and Project Manager and Project Quantity Surveyor’s Summers-Inman. It marks the third project completed by this delivery team for the university and is the largest and most complex to date.

Procured via Scape during a period of serious economic inflation, and delivered on time and on budget, the success of this build was absolutely dependent on the strong integrated delivery team across all partners.

BIOS utilised a fully collaborative approach that encompassed contractors, consultants, supply chain and the client, all working together to deliver an outstanding building that would have a lasting positive benefit for Teesside University and the wider community.

Three Winning Facts:
  1. The project was delivered on time and on budget, in collaboration with all stakeholders.
  2. BIOS achieved a standout 45/45 score Considerate Constructors Score
  3. This collaborative team has already been appointed to Teesside’s next project, as proof of their success
