Born in 1985 as sole tradership WR Williams Building Contractors, WRW Construction Ltd was incorporated in 1994 by Robert and Debbie Williams, a family business with its roots firmly embedded in West Wales. The company’s turnover exceeded £1m for the first time in 1996 and continued to grow significantly over 10 years with a re-branding and turnover hitting double figures by 2005.
After the difficult time during the UK recession and struggling to survive, we went back to basics – quality, sustainability, people and innovation. We gained ISO14001 accreditation and actively sought to win and deliver sustainable projects. We launched development plans for school leavers, undergraduates and postgraduates and invested in cloud-based solutions for our IT infrastructure. We also partnered with multinational companies.
On the up-turn, we were appointed to build Wales’ first BREEAM ‘Outstanding’ Primary School, the £11m Ysgol Ffwrnes and went on to win numerous industry awards following its successful completion. Followed by
our first BIM and Passivhaus project at Burry Port Primary School, these innovative and ground-breaking projects saw the business grow geographically and open new offices across Wales and the South West.
Our people are what’s most important to us and this is demonstrated by 15% of our staff having over 10 years’ service and an 84% staff retention rate. Of our current 117 members of staff, 20% are fully funded to
attend college or university. This combined with an average age of staff under 35, WRW are conscious of a likely skills shortage within the industry.
