The construction industry has a stereotypically macho reputation and, as a result, wellbeing and mental health has not been something that people have been prepared to discuss openly – but that doesn’t mean it’s not an issue. To support our people and improve safety within our business, we have set up a series of wellbeing and mental health programmes: Life Balance and Mental Health First Aiders.
Life Balance is a bespoke health, wellbeing and performance programme designed to improve lives and sees our people join a six-month programme that includes lifestyle management, fitness and nutrition and performance coaching that is bespoke to the individual. This was piloted in our business with our people and some of our customers and, due to the fantastic results, it’s now a programme we offer on an ongoing basis.
Our Mental Health First Aiders programme was launch over 18months ago and trains our people to have greater awareness of, understand and support their colleagues with mental health and is helping to combat the stigma that surrounds it.
