As The Vale of Glamorgan’s Sustainable Communities for Learning Programme we are a small team of five that has undergone challenges in recent years and yet has achieved significant successes in enhancing educational facilities and promoting sustainability through the successful delivery of the Band B programme.
The programme has overseen the construction and refurbishment of numerous schools, providing state-of-the-art learning environments. This includes new buildings, expansions, and upgrades that meet contemporary educational standards and needs.
A strong emphasis on sustainability has led to the incorporation of eco-friendly designs and materials in our school projects. Energy-efficient buildings, utilisation of renewable energy sources, and sustainable construction practices have been prioritised with reducing the carbon footprint of all new educational facilities with our dedication and work ethic seeing us achieve the first Net Zero Carbon (in Operation) Primary School in Wales, Southpoint Primary.
The programme has actively involved local communities in the planning and development process, ensuring that new and renovated schools meet community needs and has provided local employment opportunities and supported the regional economy. Additionally the developments offer spaces for various social and recreational activities.
Three Winning Facts:
