We are a purpose led business that exists to tackle the climate crisis – everything we do is part of that mission. We love the challenge of sites with overlooked and forgotten potential where we can lead impactful and bold regeneration. Delivering sustainability should be the norm, therefore, we aim to create a ripple effect in all cities, industries, and forums we work in.
Our vision for creating an exemplar place is bought to fruition in our flagship development The Climate Innovation District (CID) in Leeds. When complete, CID will consist of 955 houses and apartments, workplaces, leisure, retail, and a net-zero, multi-generational building which will incorporate a two-form entry primary school, care home and apartments in one building. It is a place and space led approach to regeneration with sustainability and people at its core.
In the first (now complete) phase of the district on the North Bank of the river there is already a growing community of 120 people – these houses are the first to be built in Leeds City Centre for over 100 years. The South Bank has developed too; with 22 houses, ‘The Place’, Leeds’ first zero-carbon offices (home to Citu and Yorkshire Housing) as well as Citu Manufacturing, our timber-frame manufacturing facility.
Three Winning Facts:
- 1. Embodied carbon below 250kgCO2e/m2 in a Citu home. Embodied carbon for a typical new build is 875kgCO2e/m2.
- 2160 tonnes of offset carbon saved at the Climate Innovation District in transport annually.
- Our home designs are based on Passivhaus standards and are around 75% more energy efficient than a home built to current building regulations.
