No More Excuses is Speller Metcalfe’s Health and Safety standard and a tool to drive behavioural change, continually improve processes and promote innovation within health and safety.
Launched in June 2017, NME aims to set a precedent for encouraging site operatives to highlight unsafe working in a culture that often relies on site management to take the first action and aims to create an environment in which everyone takes responsibility for their own H&S and that of their colleagues. We want speaking up to become a positive action that prevents accidents and near misses, rather than having critical safety issues go ignored or waiting for problems to be escalated to site management.
To launch the initiative we created a hard-hitting video campaign to explain what NME is all about, fronted by Group MD Des O’Neill and featuring employees from across the SML group. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LH1aDzuGZnM
Addressing the camera, Des states, ‘We won’t tolerate unsafe working and we will not tolerate neglectful actions that lead to injuries, accidents, and at worse fatalities at work.I do not want to be the one to pick up the phone to your family and tell them you suffered whilst at work with Speller Metcalfe today.”
