South Wales Police has one of the largest estates within the blue light sector across the UK. It appointed Willmott Dixon (WD) as its partner through the Scape Major Works Wales Framework.
Following a strategic review of its whole estate and with an influx of recruits and new officers in mind, South Wales Police have combined their office and training facility to create the Police Learning Centre (PLC), replacing existing facilities spread across the force area.
Delivered by Willmott Dixon, this purpose-built facility is to house all the teaching requirements on one site. The campus development consisted of major demolition of existing structures; pre-profiling of the site to accommodate new structures and parking; a new and refurbished warehouse unit, new main entrance to an existing building; a new two storey gymnasium and physical training facility and finally the new Police Learning Centre – a four storey building which will provide a permanent base for learning and development services and human resources and accommodation for the Police and Crime Commissioner.
Three Winning Facts:
- Created a SINC on site, this included planting over 1000 plants and trees to create an environment which was sup-port by Welsh Government.
- Partnership approach – we worked closely with our contractors to ensure a quality product whilst providing value for money
- We created a building with simple striped back materials which caters for all the training requirements for future generations to keep the people of South Wales Safe
