Sophie Leake

Constructing Excellence

At an early age, Sophie was drawn towards Project Management and has taken a route via design to put herself on that path. During her school years she was often grouped with boys and was told she would never achieve a career in design, even being faced with timetabling issues when she decided to take Art and Product Design, along with Maths, Chemistry and Physics A Levels – having to take some subjects alone. She has taken every road block head on, disproving this ignorance, and showcased her merits at every opportunity.

She completed a placement, within FF&E, as part of her Sandwich Degree at Bournemouth University. She continued into this industry as a graduate, but after managing a 5-storey office refit for a large investment company, Sophie was ready to broaden her horizons and set her sights on joining construction. Sophie joined Speller Metcalfe, “due to the proactive approach to giving back, whether that be in the community, charity or giving students opportunities.”

Sophie is new to site management at her current project, having spent the last few years as a design coordinator (DC), also at Speller Metcalfe. Her drive is been to be hands-on with a team through thick and thin, coming together and problem solving, and while the volume of DC was challenging, she felt she could give more to the projects worked on. She is now Speller Metcalfe’s first female site manager.
