Social Value Summit

Constructing Excellence

CHY attended and were invited to speak at the successful Social Value Summit held in London on the 8th February.  The event was extremely well attended with over 340 delegates from across the social enterprise, private and public sectors.

The message from the headline speakers was clear.

“You will lose your market place if you do not shift (to a more socially responsible) now” Mike Barry – Director of Sustainable Business (Plan A), Marks and Spencer.

We spoke at the “Social Value in Infrastructure – built environment” workshop alongside Wates and Interserve and Unltd.  The sessions was well attended and provided some interesting insights into how social value is being adopted, delivered and monitored within infrastructure.  The key themes to come from the sessions were:

An even split between delegates on whether we as a sector needed to win over “the hearts and minds” of all stakeholders or whether social value “needed more teeth” in planning and procurement.
Our view and the burgeoning view of the CE Social Value Task Group view is that “it’s a bit of both; but we do not need more teeth; we need to use the teeth we have better”
