Smith Brothers’ Commitment to a Greener Future

Constructing Excellence

Smith Brothers Stores, a nationwide distributor of HVAC products has made great strides to reduce our carbon emissions in line with the government’s plan to eliminate carbon emissions by 2050.

Our entry focuses on the sustainability practices the business has begun to adopt as part of our published environmental policy. A key achievement to date is our transition from petrol/diesel to electric or hybrid cars with CO2 emissions below a 50g/km threshold. So far, 101 electric and 33 plug-in hybrid vehicles have been purchased, and with EV chargers being installed across all Smith Brothers locations, this alone is on the back of a £6.7million investment.

In addition, our FORS Gold certification acquired in 2023 ensures the business demonstrates exemplary levels of transport sustainability and environmental best practice, and our subsidiary for home chargers and our pursuit of ISO 14001 further demonstrates our commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship.

We have also reduced our paper usage and wastage, investing into the development of EDI (electronic data interchange), tablets for staff members to perform daily tasks (i.e. vehicle checks) electronically and also source paper from sustainable sources for large literature print runs.

Three Winning Facts:
  1. Petrol/Diesel cars replaced with 101 electric and 33 hybrid vehicles.
  2. FORS Gold accreditation gained in 2023.
  3. A £6.7million investment.
