Thanks to all those who were able to join us for our Annual Parliamentary Reception at the House of Commons. Thanks to our host the Honourable MP for Bradford South, Judith Cummins for her continued support. We were delighted be joined by Minister for Business and Industry Richard Harrington, whose joint chairmanship of the Construction Leadership Council has overseen an unprecedented level of focus and investment in driving much needed change in the sector.
Our co-chair Phil Wilbraham welcomed over 120 guests from across the Constructing Excellence movement. Phil gave a special welcome to our three newest national members Tufeco, E.ON and Mott MacDonald, as well as the representatives from the newly launched Construction Innovation Hub.
Phil highlighted the four key areas of focus for Constructing Excellence in 2019 – Digital, Offsite Manufacturing, Procurement and Performance measurement. Our focus on these will ensure that we are well placed to deliver our vision of ‘positively disrupting industry delivery processes to transform performance.’
Robin Lapish, co-chair of G4C, highlighted the work G4C has been doing to improve the image and diversity of the image. Their 2019 conference will take place in Leeds in June and will focus on how young people are shaping technology and how technology is shaping young people.
Minister for Business and Industry Richard Harrington, gave an engaging speech, highlighting the importance of construction to the UK economy and his delight in securing the Construction Sector Deal. He also gave an insight into BREXIT, recognising the disquiet within industry of the current lack of clarity and the potential risks for the industry linked to skills and investment.
