The client recognized the need for a new, purpose-built crematorium replacing outdated facilities. ‘The Park,’ provides a high-quality experience for bereaving families in a beautiful, natural setting. The design includes calming arrival, waiting areas, ceremony spaces, and surrounding landscapes, ensuring intuitive movement throughout.

Featuring three spacious ceremony rooms inspired by Scandinavian crematoria, offering a minimal and tranquil aesthetic. Large windows provide natural light and reflective views. The modern crematory houses three cremators with space for a fourth. The 17-acre site includes a memorial meadow, dedicated children’s memorial area, and other thoughtfully selected memorials. The development also includes offices, a reception, waiting areas, a family room, a meeting room, an administration area, and car parking for mourners. A separate café building with two flexible function rooms is positioned near the main entrance with its own car park.

This new project replaces outdated facilities with a modern one, maintaining in-house service delivery. The unique design, using local and natural materials, provides a different architectural style rooted in the local vernacular. The project was landscape-led, with careful consideration of the building’s location, topography, and natural drainage elements to enhance initial brief requirements.
