DBTH is an acute NHS Trust, serving a 440,000+ population across South Yorkshire, and the Bassetlaw region. It has three hospital sites in Doncaster, Bassetlaw and Mexborough, and employs over 7000 staff.
As their Principal Supply Chain Partner for ten years, IHP has been helping DBTH to realise its estates strategy through a programme of improvements at its two larger hospitals in Doncaster and Bassetlaw. The vision for Montagu – its smaller, non-acute hospital, sited in Mexborough – was to transform it from a rehabilitation centre with limited hours minor injuries unit, into a regional hub for diagnostics and elective orthopaedic care with world-class facilities.
The transformative programme of work included construction of the brand-new Mexborough Elective Orthopaedic Centre of Excellence (MEOC) completed by IHP in January 2024, followed by the Imaging Suite project which was completed exactly a year after breaking ground and handed over six weeks early. Complementing the Trust’s previous redevelopment of clinical spaces to create an Endoscopy Suite with supporting facilities, the new build Imaging Suite is the final piece in the jigsaw to complete the Montagu Community Diagnostics Centre (CDC).
The new CDC Imaging Suite incorporates MRI and CT rooms, two ultrasound suites, reception area, and clinical support spaces. A new substation provides all power and back up for entire Montagu Estate.
The building opened to patients on 24th March, it’s aim to deliver 80,000 diagnostic procedures in its first year, significantly improving health outcomes for patients across South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw.
Three Winning Facts:
- The full project team has adopted a true partnership ethos which has helped the Imaging Suite to be delivered early, on budget, with a zero Lost Time Accident (LTA) Frequency Rate and no disruption to hospital operations.
- The Imaging Suite project is the centrepiece of a transformative programme of work to create a regional hub for diagnostics and elective orthopaedic care, and in turn, has secured the hospital’s future and helped regenerate a deprived community.
- The new facilities will be supported by an additional ten radiographers and six administrators that have been recruited to join the service. The Trust also has eleven apprentices that are being trained through its degree apprenticeship scheme.
