MGL Group’s Commitment to Environmental, Social, And Governance (ESG)

Constructing Excellence

MGL Group is a proud family business which places trust, integrity, community engagement, sustainability, and safety at its core. Our guiding principles and leadership style reflect the family values. The Board, which includes two female directors and three second-generation family members, fosters a culture of honesty, inclusivity, and diversity. Our recently appointed Sustainability and Compliance Director drives ethics and compliance to ensure we can uphold our responsibilities to the environment, society, and regulatory bodies.

We significantly impact the local economy through employment, education, our supply chain and engagement opportunities. The health, safety, and well-being of our people are top priorities, supported by initiatives, training, and a calendar of events. We offer incentives, competitive pay rates, and a range of benefits to reward their hard work. Additionally, we have recognition initiatives in place to ensure that every member of our team feels valued. This focus on investment in people extends beyond those within the company, and we established the MGL Foundation Trust in 2016 to drive social value and support worthwhile causes, actively support local charities and worthwhile causes, including donating minibuses for disabled children.

Honouring the legacy established by our founder and chairman, Alan Davison, who champions responsible business practices, we have embarked on our environmental, social, and governance (ESG) journey. This formalises our longstanding practice of doing what’s right and promotes accountability and transparency.

Three Winning Facts:
  1. Social value, backed by a dedicated Social Value Manager and led by members of the Leadership Team, is embedded into our everyday practice. Utilising our LM3 calculator, we’ve quantified our annual local economic impact at £220,909,679.08.
  2. Our Sustainability and Compliance Director spearheads our commitment to achieving Net Zero emissions by 2050. With ambitious targets for reducing greenhouse gas emissions, we’re investing in sustainable technologies and practices to enhance energy efficiency and minimise our environmental footprint. Our progress is monitored and reported through the SmartCarbon platform, ensuring accountability at every stage.
  3. Embedding ESG principles throughout our operations has significantly contributed to our overall success. Our positive work culture is evidenced by our longstanding team members, with some exceeding 40 years of service and 25% of our group staying with us for over 15 years. Additionally, we’re actively fostering diversity in the traditionally male-dominated construction industry, with 23% of our staff being female and supporting the future workforce, with over 7% engaged in apprenticeships or higher education pathways.
