Mark Beirne
Having owned, managed and worked with SME’s for over 30 years Mark has in-depth knowledge in business resilience and managing growth, with successful market entry into new markets including nuclear decommissioning, where he was recognised for his work by being appointed chair of an SME group to advise government ministers and clients on removing barriers to entry for SME’s in the nuclear sector.
In his role of chair, Mark also oversaw industry publications on Innovation and SMEs in the highly regulated and challenging environment of nuclear decommissioning, and in this time played a role in increasing SME participation in nuclear from 7% to 23% in 2 years.
In recent years Mark has worked extensively in the housing sector, particularly social housing, including developing the market for MMC and more recently in holistic refurbishment of homes in pursuit of healthier, warmer homes. An advocate and activist in Constructing Excellence, Mark set up Cara EPS as a disruptor business to challenge traditional business models, with a focus on value, and implementing recommendations laid out in the Egan & Lathom reports up to the more recent Farmer report, ‘Modernise or Die’.
With expertise in collaborative and integrative working, Mark has developed Cara EPS into a multi-disciplinary home upgrade business focused on better outcomes through an evidence based and data led approach. With future proofing and business resilience in mind, and a strong belief in talent in our communities who just need opportunities, Mark has played an integral role in leading Cara EPS transition into self-delivery, employing and training its workforce, including employing previously unemployed social housing residents whilst providing accredited training and apprenticeships, which forms part of an overall long term strategy in creating a sustainable community focused business with the characteristics to flourish in a modern digitally enabled bult environment.
