Constructing Excellence

“Our people are our most important asset”. Many businesses claim this, but we believe it and back it up with concrete actions, it guides decision making and defines our strategy.

In 2016, the new management of Jubb agreed their vision for the newly acquired business. It was a very simple statement and said “… to be a great business to work for, and a great business to work with…”, this recognised that great business performance is under-pinned by great people doing great things.

As part of this we had a period of reflection, and addressed some short-term issues, we recognised that we could be doing more to make Jubb the best place to work. After employee led workshops to understand what a good place to work looks like and how we could get there, our People Strategy was launched. Employees with autonomy, who feel secure and enthused are happier at work, so our strategy has four themes: new ways of working; reward and talent; recruitment; and wellbeing at the core.

Within each of the four key themes are a set of actions to deliver our goal to be an authentic people first business. Whilst we still have some way to go and the work is never complete, we are seeing great results; 89% of our team agree that Jubb is a great place to work, and we are in the ‘excellent’ category for net promoter score highlighting that the majority of employees would recommend Jubb as a place to work.

Three Winning Facts:
  1. We implemented a values-based recruitment focussing on a culture add rather than culture fit. This has led to female representation doubling in 5 years, and employees from ethnic heritage groups growing by more than 360% since 2018.
  2. We have invested an additional £100,000 on non-salary benefits such as pensions, holidays, maternity/paternity provisions, and private healthcare offerings.
  3. Over the course of 2022 and 2023, we supported 9 work experience and summer intern candidates, 4 industrial placement students, and 7 graduates and trainees.
