CGL Career Path

Constructing Excellence

Our vision is to create a consultancy that is recognised for its contribution to achieving and setting best practice standards in engineering and business as we develop our company from now and into the future. The Directors have set a growth strategy based on the fundamental premise that our people are our prime asset. Our strategy will only succeed if we fully communicate with, involve, support, train and invest in our staff. Our technical leadership of often complex analysis, and our supportive environment provides staff with exciting careers.  The dramatic growth achieved since the recession has been based on CGL’s absolute commitment to its staff and their development.

We have also ensured our strategy aligns close with Construction 2025. Regarding the first target, ‘An industry that is known for its talented and diverse workforce’, CGL proudly boasts its near 50/50 split between female and male employees. Due to CGL’s committed approach to training staff/promoting personal development, through regular appraisal sessions, CPD training, the CGL Career Path and the parallel Group Support Path, our workforce are motivated and supported to help set and achieve goals. This is recognised by staff in their questionnaire responses, the IIP’s Gold status and by our clients continued use of us as their preferred consultant.

Our leadership and people development also aligns with the second target, ‘An industry that is efficient and technologically advanced’. Every month we hold technical forums, where all offices across the country join a group video call to improve everyone’s understanding of advancements in technology or techniques. Live discussions mean everyone is on similar wavelengths, wherever they are based.

We also ensure our staff are trained in the latest techniques to deliver improved services for our clients. One example of this being the use of advanced PLAXIS 3D finite element analysis software, which following a period of in-house training is now regularly used by CGL to forecast ground movements accurately, helping clients to use smarter solutions that add value to projects such as reuse of existing piled foundations. Further to these, CGL are at the forefront in the use of Lidar data to plan and complete site investigations and provide training across the company in the uses of lidar data and the use of geographic information systems (GIS) to provide our clients with cutting edge solutions.

In addition, through leadership and personal development at CGL, we also work towards being sustainable. We are committed to the Pledge to Net Zero, to educate and support our staff and supply chain to achieve environmental improvements where possible and pass the associated benefits to our clients. We have implemented an accredited ISO 14001 Environmental Management System and are in the process of recording our carbon footprint so that further improvements can be made.

We believe our entry shows good practice going forward in supporting employees at all levels within the organisation and equipping them not just for the roles they do at CGL but for their future roles within the industry. We believe our strategy recognises the obligations all construction companies have to build the future capability of the industry.
