Britcon have embraced all Construction Playbook key themes and best practice, investing in people, resources and digital tools to achieve exemplary outcomes.

We have continued to invest in our people and support our supply chain, increasing our training budget by 35% and delivering over 130 training days. Introducing a number of employee benefits to support improved mental health and wellbeing, including a free private health scheme, fitness and dietary training, a mental health APP and ambassador support, this has supported an 8% increase in employee satisfaction.

Our focus on delivering high impact social value outcomes is highlighted through the delivery of a £27m social return on investment within the communities we work, creating 46 new jobs and safeguarding over 2,500 local jobs. Developing 5 partnerships to support over 480 apprentice weeks, our Britcon Foundation also supported 12 charities with 130 volunteering days. Investing over £200k in social value resources including social value calculators to support our clients deliver their Social Value Act and PPN 06/20 requirements. Our Loop tool enables us to measure 139 social value KPIs aligned to the HM Treasury’s Green Book, we also provided mandatory social value and modern slavery training. 81% of our sub-contracts were placed locally in 2022, with 79% placed with MSMEs.

As an SME our supply chain is integral, we have supported upskilling and prompt payment compliancy through e-invoicing, with 97% of payments made within 30 days; and we supported initiatives to reduce retentions.

All our KPIs have been delivered, with 30% exceeded, including becoming a net zero carbon neutral company, securing places on 3 new frameworks, opening a new North East office to expand our operations. We secured one of our largest contracts to date, the £16m Factory for Ideal Heating in Hull and delivered a BREEAM excellent office development to kick-start the £320m Chesterfield Waterside regeneration development.

Three Winning Facts:
  1. Our investment in people, systems, partnerships and training has delivered significant business improvements. Delivering growth of 83% and a 142% profitability improvement. Our £1m investment in new digital systems and resources has supported 14% efficiency improvements and the delivery of value-based outcomes, beyond normal cost, quality and programme metrics. Our average customer feedback score is 92%, we have a 100% client referral and 86% of our turnover is repeat business.
  2. We have proactively embraced all the Construction Playbook policies, engaging early with our supply chain and clients to support efficiency improvements and deliver exceptional customer experiences. Including supporting high impact social value outcomes, with an average project SROI above 40%, with over 2,500 local jobs safeguarded. We onboarded 8 new clients and secured 3 new frameworks in 2022 to improve our business resilience and public/private sector balance, through our collaborative approach and ability to consistently provide exceptional value.
  3. We are changing behaviours and have developed a culture where H&S is the No.1 priority, reflected in RoSPA and British Safety Council performance awards. We have invested in our team, including training, access to digital tools, mental health and wellbeing apps, and free private healthcare. We have a more diverse team and new working practices to support improved retention, resilience and performances.
