The team have undertaken extraordinary transformative works, significantly improving public transport. The design honours Bradford’s rich history including uncovering/re-laying old tram tracks in the plaza, with the inviting Norfolk Gardens serving as the project’s focal point.
A focus on sustainable travel/accessibility, we provided dedicated cycleways and increased pedestrianisation as well as re-routing traffic to streamline urban mobility and integrating a new bus loop for seamless connections to key city locations. A super crossing and inviting public plaza replaces the previously congested junctions, alongside extended green spaces, featuring new street furniture/extensive landscaping. We minimised carbon-intensive techniques and waste by using existing levels/materials. Safety innovations included the Hooka Lift/Human Form Recognition.
Working as a collaborative partner with City of Bradford Metropolitan District Council (CBMDC), West Yorkshire Combined Authority (the Combined Authority) and Sweco, we expertly guided CBMDC from Strategic Outline Business Case (SOC) through to safe completion of the works. We delivered on time, with 370,000+ hours worked safely, achieved 96% average customer satisfaction, 96% quality audit score, 46 Considerate Constructor Score (CCS) and £9.8m+ social value add.
The scheme is already considered best practice in placemaking/transportation, with Active Travel England eager to showcase it as a model for other cities.
