The A428 project is a new £1b road scheme involving construction of 17km dual 2-lane carriageway from Black Cat in Bedfordshire through to Caxton Gibbet. The scheme addresses problems of congestion, poor journey time reliability and poor resilience against incidents.
This is a major National Highways (NH) project. We’re constructing three significant junctions and 18 new bridges including a 450m viaduct over the River Great Ouse and crossing of the East Coast Mainline. We’ll move 4m3 of earthworks and lay 650,000t of asphalt.
The project is currently halfway through the 3yr construction period and there are currently 800 people on site turning over £1m per day.
The largest NH project currently in construction and is the best performing of all 22 schemes in its portfolio (based on Client KPIs). It’s being delivered to budget and on programme.
The success of this scheme so far is down to collaboration across all parties and individuals involved – Client, Contractor, Designer and Supply Chain.
