The Hexham Hospital Phase 2 project delivered cutting-edge healthcare facilities through seamless collaboration across the supply chain. Integrated Health Projects (IHP), Northumbria Healthcare NHS Trust, and designers and consultants worked as one team to enhance critical services, including:
- A 16-chair Oncology Day Unit designed for comfort and dignity
- A redesigned Women’s Health suite with ensuite facilities for privacy
- A cutting-edge Endoscopy department, improving diagnostic efficiency
- Enhanced dentistry and oral surgery spaces, including specialist paediatric provisions
- Site-wide infrastructure upgrades, improving resilience, service continuity and patient safety
Our structured collaborative delivery model was key. Through engaging early with stakeholders, we developed an evidence-based design, tailoring services to staff and resident needs. While expert supply chain partners guided procurement and construction sequencing.
Through weekly site walkarounds with estates teams, we identified and resolved risks early, reinforcing patient safety. Our fair procurement and prompt payment policies strengthened relationships with SMEs. And by using BIM and digital twin technologies, we streamlined coordination and cut environmental impact through sustainable methods and materials.
Three Winning Facts:
- Increased staff satisfaction by 30% thanks to new cutting-edge, patient-centred facilities
- Aligned stakeholders under shared goals, collaborating from design to delivery
- Applied advanced technology and sustainable practices to drive long-term value
