Cabinet Office trial projects

Published 16th December 2015 by Constructing Excellence

Constructing Excellence have worked with the Cabinet Office since 2011 to monitor and report on trials of three modern models of procurement designed to deliver the Government Construction Strategy’s target 15-20% reduction in capital costs through collaborative approaches:

  • Cost Led Procurement
  • Integrated Project Insurance
  • Two Stage Open Book

Once a project is accepted onto the programme, we appoint a mentor and an academic, and monitoring follows a well-established process adopted in our Innovation in Practice and previous demonstrations programmes, and developed over 15 years.

Projects that apply for Trial Project status are reviewed by a Trial Projects Group comprising industry, client and government representatives. Once accepted onto the programme, the project mentor and academic meet regularly with the project team to gather qualitative and quantitative information using agreed templates and face to face discussions.

Project case studies are published at interim stages of the project and on completion, and we continue to monitor for project outcomes. Findings to date indicate that these approaches are delivering 10-20% improvements in value for money. For in-depth information on the projects in the programme, please see the project case studies listed below.
