Leicester Secondary Schools Project

Constructing Excellence

Portakabin handed over its largest ever multi-site education project on time and under budget, delivering 7,100m2 of space in seven weeks across six sites.

Just five months before the new school year began Leicester City Council needed space for 600 pupils across six schools as a result of new residential developments.

Thanks to its unmatchable quality of build and on time on budget track record, modular and offsite construction specialist Portakabin was awarded the immense project.

Interim school facilities were delivered on time and under budget at Babington Academy, City of Leicester College, Crown Hills Community College, Judgemeadow Community College, Rushey Mead Academy and Soar Valley College.

Portakabin provided state-of-the-art spaces to learn, move and eat healthily; 45 standard classrooms, nine science classrooms, three design and technology classrooms, an expressive arts studio, an art studio, multi-use space, toilets, changing rooms and showers, staff rooms and two dining rooms were installed which created 1,370 new pupil places.

The design and build project included groundworks, interior fit out and temporary roads as well as network data points, alarm systems and furniture.
