Constructing Excellence

A new £15.5m Interdisciplinary Science & Technology Centre (ISTeC) located at the Clifton Campus, was completed by Nottingham Trent University in August 2017.

The project came in below budget, ahead of programme and includes outstanding sustainability features. It was also uniquely built by an in-house construction team.

The 3210m2 building has been certified with ‘Performance Beyond Compliance’ by the Considerate Constructors Scheme, awarded an EPC ‘A’ rating, and is on target for BREEAM ‘Excellent’.

Team work, collaboration and the use of an ‘in house’ contractor were key factors to the success of this project.

Exemplary team collaboration with university stakeholders allowed a number of planning challenges to be overcome, changes to the brief to be made, and through the technical design development of intensive M&E servicing and innovative robotics facilities, a world class teaching facility was created.

The in-house construction team stepped up to handover this significant project ahead of schedule, delivered  a  thorough soft landing and overall helped produce a delighted client. By procuring projects via the in-house route, student fees are spent more effectively thus increasing the benefit to the students.
