Innovation Fire Engineering Ltd was set up in Leeds in 2009 by Stephanie Brady and James Brady to introduce creativity and innovative thinking into fire engineering. As an SME, there are always challenges and as a working mum of 2 young children I constantly need to balance the commercial needs of the business alongside the needs of my children. This often involves working unsociable hours to deliver outstanding outcomes for clients, as client satisfaction and client retention is imperative.
Cash flow can be a challenge and is intrinsic to the success of the company. With the help of Business Link we gained essential skills in credit control and marketing. We learned about Customer Relationship Management (CRM) systems and implemented it to encourage prompt payment of invoices. Today we are a loyal team of 8 and the company is growing sustainably.
As an SME specialising in fire engineering it can be difficult to recruit high calibre graduates, as larger companies offer benefits, e.g. international travel and many competitors are multi-disciplinary companies offering a wider range of services for clients.
