This report is the result of a full-day industry workshop of 80 leading senior practitioners in May 2006, funded by the Department for Trade and Industry (DTI is now known as The Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform (BERR) and managed by Constructing Excellence, to consider how the 2007 target can be met and to formulate a strategy to drive further integrated working in the UK construction industry.
The specific objectives were as follows:
- To deepen our knowledge about what ‘integration’ can and does mean for different players in built environment supply chains, and about the potential benefits
- To identify where people think they’ve made progress and where they haven’t
- To increase awareness and understanding of the reasons for successes and ‘near misses’ when working in an integrated way through the supply chain
- To explore what managers in various functions and different organisations need to do to take integration forward.
The report puts on record all the discussions of the workshop and presents a menu of potential actions and other recommendations for the Strategic Forum members and other stakeholders to consider. This is summarised overleaf. The report has five main strands addressing barriers associated with clients as end-users, clients as procurers, supply chains, project teams and individuals.
