Morgan Sindall Construction (MSC) was appointed by Arc Partnership (Arc) to deliver Millside Spencer Academy on behalf of Nottinghamshire County Council.
Designed and managed by Arc, the project was procured via the SCAPE National Construction framework, a direct-award framework designed to drive collaboration.
Early contractor engagement through the framework saw MSC and its supply chain involved as early as RIBA Stage 2 to provide Arc with accurate forecast and delivery costs as part of a free feasibility report. Greater visibility of the project also provided the supply chain with opportunities to offer their expertise at the earliest stages.
Following a highly collaborative partnership between MSC and Arc to help Arc achieve the ISO 19650-2 accreditation, Millside marked the first major project to be delivered in line with the standard, with BIM Stage 2 utilised to help give greater cost and programme certainty.
The SCAPE framework also ensured the project delivered long-lasting social value and decarbonisation outcomes. The team worked hard to achieve a social value return of 46.5%, ensuring more than £4.55m was reinvested with the local area. Supporting the client’s aspirations to reduce carbon, more than 117 tonnes of carbon was saved during the build by using the latest sustainable construction methods offered by its supply chain.
Three Winning Facts:
- Procured via SCAPE, a truly collaborative framework that encourages early contractor engagement.
- Installation of Temporary Learning Village for 50 children to prevent land ownership challenges derailing project, a solution achieved through high levels of communication between Arc and MSC.
- First major Arc project delivered in line with the ISO 19650-2 standard following its successful accreditation, a two-year journey that was heavily supported by MSC.
