Delivered 5 weeks early, snag free, and on budget, the £9.9m project to create state-of-the-art student accommodation and new teaching areas exceeded all expectations. But it nearly didn’t get off the ground when, over budget, the scheme almost went back on the shelf – through a collaborative and extensive value engineering exercise we saved £1.37m, getting the scheme off the ground. Protecting the student experience was key – we were working in two separate locations, but planned around the University to achieve 10/10 for customer satisfaction:
“The team have gelled so well within the Newman community – it’s been collaboration throughout. The team were never about what was best for Morgan Sindall, they were about what was best for the University, and that’s always come out – that’s unique actually. They always asked what’s best for us, the students and the student experience. They met the brief, they met the quality and they met the cost, but it’s also been about the pure experience. So I’d be saying to peers look what they’ve delivered at Newman. When we decide to build the second halls here – I’ll be saying I want the same team and that’s how impressed we’ve been with James and his team.”
