SUMMARY:Exploring a Platform Approach at the Forge - Site Visit
DESCRIPTION:Sir Robert McAlpine is hosting the CE Manufacturing & Technology Group at the ground-breaking Forge project.  \nThe Forge is a 139\,000 square foot\, high-quality office development\, comprising two buildings set to be finished to Cat A – not too unusual a proposition for central London. But its construction is anything but routine: it’s the world’s first large-scale office scheme to be built using a standardised “kit of parts”\, an approach known as platform design for manufacture and assembly (P-DfMA).  Visit: Changing the face of construction at The Forge – Sir Robert McAlpine (srm.com) \nCE Members will have a unique opportunity to see the platform approach in action\, find out more from the team behind this ground-breaking project and consider how this could be applied on future projects.   \n

SUMMARY:Hydrogen in Construction – Constructing Excellence Roundtable
DESCRIPTION:**This is an invitation only event** \nSkanska UK in collaboration with BAM Nuttall and the Building Research Establishment (BRE) are leading the Red Diesel Replacement Phase 1 projects funded by the Department for Business\, Energy\, and Industrial Strategy (BEIS). The programme aims to explore and develop low-carbon alternatives to red diesel for construction. \nThis roundtable will provide an opportunity to find out more about the Phase 1 projects and share your views on how you could see Hydrogen being implemented in the construction sector. We will be seeking your views on how you could see benefits for your projects\, what conditions would need to be in place to convince you to use the low carbon alternatives and any limitations there might be. \n\nWhy Hydrogen?\n“Greener\, because the requirements of the net zero commitment will be considered in every stage of the project life cycle and underpin decisions on the technical solutions chosen to achieve the required outcomes”. National Infrastructure Strategy \n\nHydrogen is central to reaching net zero emissions because it can abate 80 gigatons of CO2 by 2050\nHydrogen’s full potential can only be realized if action is taken across three fronts to: stimulate demand\, enable access through infrastructure\, and create scale to bring down costs and close the economic gap of hydrogen decarbonization solutions versus conventional alternatives.\nThe world needs rapid emissions reductions and clean hydrogen has a crucial role to play\, particularly in hard-to-abate sectors.\nHydrogen can play a fundamental role in enabling countries and industries to meet their net-zero emission targets by 2050. While not in itself the solution to abate all emissions across sectors\, hydrogen uniquely complements and enables other decarbonization pathways such as direct electrification\, energy efficiency measures\, and biomass-based fuels.\n\nSource: Hydrogen for net zero report

SUMMARY:Digital by Default Series – December – Online event
DESCRIPTION:Digital by Default Series\nDigital is ubiquitous. It is no longer a special\, intangible thing reserved for people with digital or BIM in their job title. We are all to a greater or lesser extent digitally-enabled. The Constructing Excellence Digital Group has moved from being about BIM to Digital Construction to now looking at the implementation of digital in all its forms into construction and the built environment. \nThe CE Digital Group aims to provide a safe space to exchange ideas and challenges\, share best practice and explore emerging technologies and their practical application in the construction context. Whatever your level of digital maturity from just about able to join a zoom call to a digital ninja\, the CE digital group provides a trusted\, safe-space to gain insight\, ask questions and consider how you can better implement digital approaches in your projects and organisation. \nJoin us online in December\, where we will be looking at digital tracking information including input from Rachel Heaton at GS1 on the application of barcode standards in construction\, James Franklin from Kier on implementing tracking from design to installation and an update on Tag and Track technology.

SUMMARY:Developing an Energy Transition Community of Practice
DESCRIPTION:Developing an Energy Transition Community of Practice:\nUnlocking productivity to deliver the infrastructure that will underpin our net zero future\nConstructing Excellence and ECI have long been champions of collaborative working and contracting. We propose to establish a community of practice involving the broadest spectrum of Net Zero participating organisations focussing on driving continual productivity improvement in the delivery of energy transition projects. \nThe community will bring together existing approaches\, signpost the great work being done by groups focussed on skills\, technology and innovation and consider how these can be harnessed to unlock the productivity gains that are crucial to achieving Net Zero. \nThis is a great opportunity to bring together our members and stakeholders who are currently delivering in this area or are keen to apply their expertise building on the body of work in ECI\, CE Nuclear and Hydrogen.  This is an opportunity to focus our existing activities in this space around a common\, critical topic. \nThe community will focus on sharing best practice\, experience\, knowledge and insight on how to implement these solutions in project delivery. Participants will jointly explore how these solutions can be applied on Net Zero projects and how to convince sceptics to come on board in the making the transformational change to how projects are delivered. \nJoin us on 10th January to help us shape this community. \n

SUMMARY:Energy Transition Revolution – Powering the New Age of Project Delivery
DESCRIPTION:The scale\, complexity and speed of the energy transition challenge requires a razor-sharp focus on successful project delivery. But engineering construction still has to deliver conventional energy-related projects. What can be learnt from the past\, and what can we do differently so that energy transition and conventional energy-related projects are delivered consistently successfully for all stakeholders. This means revolutionising the way in which engineering construction delivers projects. Throughout 2023 we will be hosting online events that examine the body of knowledge and practices to achieve successful outcomes and how these can be refined\, developed and applied in the context of an unprecedented need to assure effective project delivery. \nWe aim to collaboratively explore through participants own experiences\, case studies and the latest thinking\, how technologies can enhance project delivery and how to ensure success in each stage of the project. \nWe will be building on established principles and theory and looking at the eight ACTIVE Principles (Achieving Competitiveness Through Innovation & Value Enhancement). While these principles remain relevant\, one of the purposes of this series of work will be to modernise them and bring them up to date for use in today’s world. The principles are as follows: \n\nEffective Project Concept & Definition\nEffective Project Team Management\nEffective Supply Chain Relationships\nEffective Information Management and Communication\nEffective Project Risk Management\nEffective Innovation & Continuous Improvement\nEffective Project Execution\nEffective Performance Measurement\n\n  \nWe will be kicking off on the 14th March with a session on Effective Project Concept and Definition and will be discussing some of the challenges within this area\, before exploring possible solutions.\n
