SUMMARY:Members Forum - Performance Measurement Forum: Delivering value through performance measurement
DESCRIPTION:For 20 years Constructing Excellence has been the go-to place for what and how to benchmark since the construction industry KPIs were launched\, wallcharts and an annual industry performance report were published\, and masterclasses were run. \nAround 2004 we worked with Salford University to make available an online portal for collecting\, analysing and reporting KPIs to enable people to measure and compare their own performance on the basis of ‘apples with apples’\, as a basis for prioritising improvements. \nWe have now launched a major upgrade to that portal\, our new SmartSite KPIs tool. This has been developed in collaboration with BRE under the strategic direction of our cross-industry membership. It is a critical tool for comparing any project or portfolio with a) others in peer group\, b) CE members c) national performance\, d) other sectors\, e) international performance. \nOur national members have privileged access to the tool\, as well as the ability to influence the future direction of this critical stream of our work through our new Performance Measurement Forum. The Performance Measurement Forum will review the current core set of KPIs in the context of right measures for the Construction Sector Deal\, productivity\, social value\, and demonstrating the benefits and business case from transformational approaches such as offsite\, BIM. \nView the agenda and book your place here

SUMMARY:CE Annual Conference - 20 Years of Rethinking Construction
DESCRIPTION:Book your place here \nThis year’s Constructing Excellence Annual Conference marks 20 years since the release of Sir John Egan’s Rethinking Construction.  This report combined with Sir Michael Latham’s Constructing the Team provided the foundations for the Constructing Excellence Movement\, aiming to deliver Excellence through Collaboration. \nIn 1998 we were industry characterised by low margins\, poor investment in capital and R&D and a skills shortage due to our inability to attract the best talent.  Moreover\, procurement was led by price\, not value\, projects were unpredictable on time\, cost and quality and much of the sector was extremely fragmented. \nSo how much has changed?  On the surface that characterisation of the industry remains valid.  However\, the Constructing Excellence movement is leading the way\, demonstrating tangible the tangible benefits of working collaboratively.  This year’s conference will take an in-depth look at how the core Constructing Excellence values of clients procuring for value\, standardisation and pre-manufactured value and digitally-enabled collaboration can be applied at a broader level across the industry. \nThe Construction Sector Deal is seeing unprecedented government investment and support for change in the sector and is in complete alignment with our vision.  Join us on 12 December to find out how we can build on 20 years of industry leadership and maximise this unique opportunity for change. \nAgenda \n09:15  Registration and Networking \n10:00  Introduction & Overview of Constructing Excellence in 2018 \n10:15  Clients Procuring for Value \n\nThe need to change – Phil Wilbraham\, Co-Chair Constructing Excellence\nDudley College – Integrated Project Insurance – Steve Johnson\, Executive Director of Estates and Capital Projects\, Dudley College\nEnhancing construction delivery in Qatar with Constructing Excellence – Eng Ahmad Al Ansari\, Head of the Technical Office\, Ashghal (Public Works Authority)\, Qatar\, and Chair of Constructing Excellence in Qatar\n\n11:20  Coffee and Networking \n11:50  Standardisation & Pre-Manufactured Value \n\nThe need to change – Mark Farmer\, Co-Chair Constructing Excellence\nAlan Clucas\, Director\, Explore Manufacturing – Laing O’Rourke\nRosie Toogood\, CEO\, Legal & General Modular Homes\n\n13:00  Lunch and Networking \n14:00  Digitally Enabled \n\nThe need to change – David Whysall\, Co-Chair Constructing Excellence\nPaul Clarke\, Chief Technology Officer\, Ocado\nDeirdre Fox\, Director Strategic Business Development\, Tata Steel\n\n15:15  Coffee and Networking \n15:35 Transforming Construction Alliance – Keith Waller\, Senior Adviser\, Infrastructure and Projects Authority \n15:50  Better perceptions\, better talent\, better performance – A new direction for G4C\, Robin Lapish and Caroline Key \n16:05  Panel discussion How will we achieve our vision in 2019? \n\nSimon Lawrence\, Programme Director for Major Infrastructure Tracking\, Infrastructure and Projects Authority\nMarcus Harling\, Partner\, Burges Salmon\nAnn Bentley\, Global Board Director\, Rider Levett Bucknall\nG4C\n\n16:50  Summary and next steps \n17:00  Close \nBook your place here \nSpeakers \n[wmts id=”9244″] \nSponsors

SUMMARY:ECI Annual Conference - Rethinking how capital programmes are delivered
DESCRIPTION:This conference will build on the work programme of ECI during 2018\, which has addressed the challenges faced across Europe in the engineering and construction sector\, which is increasingly facing: \n\nProjects with sanctioned investment becoming unviable\,\nRising uncertainty about project outcomes related to cost\, completion dates\, start-up and plant performance and reliability\,\nFrequent disputes and major cost and delay claims that challenge resolution without arbitration or litigation\nDifficult relationships between project teams and contractors.\n\nIndustry leaders have expressed deep dissatisfaction with current ways of working and are hungry for a different approach. ECI has been working with the Construction Industry Institute in the USA on such a new model\, which embraces the opportunities afforded by digital technology to improve capital project outcomes. The conference will share thinking to date on this model as well as perspectives particularly from large owners\, users and clients of the sector. \nConfirmed speakers include Paul van Weert – Shell\, Melanie Sachar – EDF\, Frank von Willert – McKinsey & Company\, Stephen Mulva – Construction Industry Institute Texas\, John Fotherby – ECI Chair and Don Ward – ECI Chief Executive. \nAttendees at the conference will include facility sponsors\, owners and operators\, architects\, engineering firms and contractors\, manufacturers and suppliers and engineering and construction support providers as well as other related services including digital/IT\, legal\, finance and accounting. This is a great opportunity to be part of a movement that re-shapes our industry over the coming years\, as well as expanding your network and providing immediately some innovative ideas to take away that you can apply in your own organisation. \nTo book your place please click here

SUMMARY:Asset management workshop
DESCRIPTION:In collaboration with Bouygues UK\, and Bouygues Energy and Services as industry partners throughout last year\, a process was developed that governs data flow between all building stakeholders i.e. (Client/FM team\, Architect\, Design Consultants\, Main Contractor\, and Sub Contractors). The process is based on COBie standard and it includes sub-processes of data management using COBie for each of the RIBA stages. \nUnder the supervision of two professors from the Institute for Digital Innovation in the Built Environment\, a first focus group was held which was internal to Bouygues UK to discuss and validate the process\, in which we had useful discussion and feedback. This focus group with the CE Asset Management Theme Group aims to initiate a wider discussion with industry about the proposed process framework. \nDuring the workshop\, Mr. Ahmed Al Naggar\, a PhD candidate at UCL will present the conceptual framework of the proposed process which is already a research paper under publication at the “Journal of Facility Management”\, and then present the actual technical process that outlines data-flow in alignment with RIBA stages clarifying the role of each stakeholder; what data to be provided\, when and to what quality standards. \nAfter the presentation\, we will open a discussion about the process\, and collect feedback that will be used to refine the process\, and will be included in the second technical research paper\, of course with acknowledgment to the CE asset management group members. \nRegister here
