SUMMARY:Major Projects - Driving long term value through collaborative procurement
DESCRIPTION:An online meeting organised jointly with Constructing Excellence and ECI to explore the impact of collaborative procurement approaches.\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout this Event\n\n\n“…Collaborative construction procurement comprises a set of processes and relationships through which teams can develop\, share and apply information in ways that improve the design\, construction and operation of their projects. It supports team selection and team integration\, and it offers a fresh approach to legal and cultural issues that can otherwise reduce efficiency and waste valuable resources…” (Collaborative Construction Procurement and Improved Value\, by David Mosey\, 2019\, Wiley Blackwell). \nCollaborative and alliancing procurement approaches have been widely demonstrated to deliver better project outcomes in the built environment\, yet their widespread uptake remains slow.   Approaches such as Insurance Backed Alliancing\, Framework Alliancing Contracts\, 2 stage open book etc. have been show to deliver better outcomes for owners and their supply chain partners.  This virtual roundtable hosted jointly with the European Construction Institute and Constructing Excellence aims to bring together owners\, supply chain partners and experts in collaborative procurement to understand how these approaches can be successfully applied in the engineering construction sector. \nOutline agenda: \n\nNew models of procurement and alliancing approaches – Prof David Mosey\, Kings College\nOwner perspective – Paul McGregor\, Shell\nProcuring for Productivity – Adam Newbould\, CE Nuclear\nECITB Collaboration Toolkit – ECITB\n\nThis will be followed by an interactive session where participants can share examples\, ask questions and hold interactive discussions. \nFull joining instructions will be sent in advance of the meeting. \n\nhttps://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/major-projects-driving-long-term-value-through-collaborative-procurement-tickets-100806232154

SUMMARY:Re-building a digitally enabled industry
DESCRIPTION:The current crisis has changed attitudes to digital technologies overnight. How can we capitalise on this new-found digital trust? This will be the first in a series of sessions that point a digital lens at the core Constructing Excellence themes and opportunities for transformation. \nWe are joining up with the UK BIM Alliance as part of their communities virtual conference and members are able to join the full day\, covering aspects such as the UK BIM Framework\, Interoperability\, digital and sustainability and the impact of new guidance on the Golden Thread of Information. \nJoin us along with ThinkBIM and the UK BIM Alliance to share your experience and views on how the current situation can accelerate a digitally-enabled industry.

SUMMARY:Members Forum - Productivity under COVID19
DESCRIPTION:The current COVID situation is forcing everyone to live and work differently. We are embracing new technologies and ways of working. This applies across all areas and levels of construction from design teams through to delivery on site\, we are all embracing change. But what impact is this having on productivity? Are we more productive? Are there positives that will be taken forward into the ‘new normal’? Could this accelerate our much needed transformation towards being a more productive sector?\nThese are some of the issues we will be exploring with John McGovern\, chair of our Performance Measurement Forum and Head of Asset Investment at Northumbria Water Group. We are pulling together a panel of members with examples of how COVID19 is impacting on productivity in the sector.

SUMMARY:Circular economy\, whole life approaches and MMC
DESCRIPTION:The Constructing Excellence Offsite Manufacturing & Technology Group is holding an online meeting to consider the role of circular economy and whole life approaches and the role MMC has to play in this important area.  As we move to a more sustainable and net zero carbon society we need to consider the whole life implications of our buildings and assets.  As MMC makes it easier to design and construct buildings and assets we take a look at the whole life aspects of this and how MMC can contribute to a circular economy.  We will be joined by a panel of experts with in-depth knowledge of MMC and whole-life approaches: \n\nDr Flavie Lowres from BRE will share ongoing research around Buildings as Materials Banks\nJoanna Clarke from SPECIFIC will draw on their experience\, views of and challenges based on the life cycle cost comparison exercise undertaken for the Active Office Project

SUMMARY:ECI - A contractor's perspective on implementing AWP
DESCRIPTION:Building on our successful introductory webinar on AWP led by Stuart Block\, Fluor\, we will now take a deeper look at what the implementation of AWP means from a contractor’s perspective. Led by Luigi Anselmi from Tecnimont will look in detail at AWP from a contractors perspective. Why should contractors embrace it? What are the specific advantages that it brings? What do contractors need to be aware of when implementing AWP? What are the critical success factors. \nJoin us on 9 September to find out more\, learn from leading practitioners and share your experiences.

SUMMARY:Towards Net Zero - decarbonising the industrial and energy sectors
DESCRIPTION:In order to move to net zero carbon emissions by 2050 we will need to deploy a range of technologies\, including carbon capture and hydrogen\, to decarbonise the industrial and energy sectors. The engineering construction industry will be responsible for designing\, installing and maintaining much of the infrastructure required. Join us on 25 November to find out more about this significant opportunity.\n– Jenny Young from ECITB will share insights into their recently published report Towards Net Zero: The implications of the transition to Net Zero for the Engineering Construction Industry\n– Prof Mercedes Maroto-Valer from IDRIC the Industrial Decarbonisation Research & Innovation Centre will provide insight into the work her centre is doing to accelerate the cost-effective decarbonisation of industry by developing and deploying low-carbon technologies. It also aims to enable the deployment of infrastructure at scale by the mid-2020s. \nJoin us HERE \n
