SUMMARY:Digital Construction Theme Group
DESCRIPTION:The Digital Construction Theme Group previously identified a knowledge gap for robust case studies that clearly demonstrate the benefits of digital construction. Case Studies in the past have lacked rigour in applied statistical methods and suffered from poor quality of data. This meant that the derived findings were only partially meaningful and associated actions only moderately effective in improving the construction industry. The BRE Trust is now funding a Digital Construction Case Study project jointly delivered by Constructing Excellence and the BRE BIM team that seeks to establish what really drives project success to inform industry change initiatives based on evidence rather than anecdote. \nProject manager Thomas Lindner from the BRE BIM team will present the progress so far and future plans as it moves into delivery phase. DESCRIPTION:This Members’ Forum will focus on offsite construction\, pre-manufactured solutions\, and industrialisation. It is open to all national members of Constructing Excellence and by invitation to members of their supply chain who wish to influence the future work of Constructing Excellence at a national level in this arena. \nIn his review of the UK construction labour model entitled Modernise or Die published in October (#FarmerReview)\, Mark Farmer identified industrialisation and delivery through pre-manufactured methods as key in many sectors to addressing our ailments of low productivity\, low predictability\, low margins\, adversarial pricing\, lack of collaboration & improvement culture\, lack of R&D and investment in innovation\, and poor image. \nIn this forum we wish to develop a programme to support the implementation of Mark Farmer’s report\, and in particular to inform members’ strategies for high-productivity pre-manufactured propositions. \nSpeakers will include: \n\nMark Farmer\, CEO at Cast Consultancy and author of the Farmer Review:\nDarren Richards of Built Environment Hub on the current state of the offsite market\nRichard Crosby\, Partner\, Blacc Consulting LLP on the challenges of pre-manufactured solutions\nSimon Reid\, Managing Director and Richard Daw of Scape’s Lungfish business on their model in the education sector\n\nMembers are invited to nominate key players from their demand or supply chain who would value from participation in the event – and subsequently from joining Constructing Excellence to be part of our movement for change. \nBook at EventBrite: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/constructing-excellence-february-members-forum-tickets-30514128580

SUMMARY:Sustainability and Digital Construction Theme Groups Joint meeting
DESCRIPTION:The merger between BRE and CE offers us an opportunity to further strengthen the support we give to our members on sustainability and digital construction. This will provide opportunities to increase the diversity of participating companies and provide wider networking and collaborations. With this in mind\, this meeting on BIM and sustainability will be a combined meeting between the sustainability and digital construction theme groups. \nThis meeting will include: \n\nan introduction to BIM from Kim van Rooyen of our hosts Turner & Townsend\nJudit Kimpian at AHR on the CarbonBuzz project and BIM energy modelling\na look at integrating sustainability data in BIM software with Meike Borchers from WSP Parsons Brinckerhoff\nChris Broadbent and Guy Hammersley with an overview of the many ways BRE delivers sustainability and BIM\, and how they relate to each other\nan update from Antonio Pisano on Constructing Excellence’s Data workstream\, and the implication for sustainability\na discussion of the role of digital in delivering sustainability\n\nNational members of Constructing Excellence can attend by emailing colm.quinn@constructingexcellence.org.uk
