SUMMARY:Pre-Manufactured Value– Are We Asking the Right Question?
DESCRIPTION:Pre-Manufactured Value (PMV) measures the proportion of a project value that is delivered offsite or nearsite in a drive to increase productivity and the uptake of MMC.  Its use a project KPI\, particularly in government funded projects\, is increasing the uptake of offsite solutions. \nIs this always the right answer? Is it driving the wrong behaviours?  We are joined by a brilliant panel: \n\nHelen Sturdy\, Head of Procure23\nScott Tacchi\, Head of MMC at Sir Robert McAlpine\nPhil Henry\, Market Director\, Genuit Group\nChaired by Alex Small\, Digital Platforms Lead\, Tata Steel\n\nJoin us for what promises to be a lively and interactive discussion.

SUMMARY:Thriving through Uncertainty – Constructing Excellence Conference 2023
DESCRIPTION:Thriving Through Uncertainty:\nExploring the tools needed to see us through uncertain times.\nSociety has been through over two years of unprecedented disruption\, stimulating irreversible change in how we live and work. In our new reality we are embracing digitalisation like never before\, the need to tackle net zero and climate change is at the heart of government and business decision making.  Global uncertainty is driving inflation\, disrupting supply chains and creating a skills shortage. \nThe Construction Industry has been innovating like never before through initiatives like the Transforming Construction Challenge and the Construction Innovation Hub. The government through the Construction Playbook and changes to procurement regulations wants to see this innovation deployed at scale.   We will be asking how do we implement this transformation. \nThis conference will bring together key influencers from across the Constructing Excellence movement and wider industry to consider how we harness this innovation and push for the transformation that will enable us to thrive in our new reality. \n  \nPresentations\n\nScaling up innovation and technology\nThrough the Transforming Construction Industry Strategy Challenge Fund over £400 million of public and private investment has been made in new construction products\, technologies and techniques. What are those emerging technologies and how will they help us deliver better outcomes? How do we move from research\, demonstration and pilots to commercial implementation? \nChair: Phil Wilbraham \nSpeakers: \n\nKeith Waller\, Construction Innovation Hub\nAndreea Vihristencu\, Asite/G4C\nKarine Bartle\, Wincanton\nDale Sinclair\, WSP\n\n  \nEmbracing a culture that allows people and organisations to thrive\nHow do we create a culture that embraces innovation? How do we finally crack the cultural issues that make it difficult to attract and retain talent in the construction industry? How do we unlock the collaborative culture that is the foundation of Constructing Excellence? \nChair: David Whysall \nSpeakers: \n\nLydia McGuinness\, Wates/G4C\nTracey Collins\, Kier\nJennifer Castle\, LHC\nEloise Francis\, BRE\n\n  \nThriving commercially – the foundations for success\nSuccessful transformation needs to be a commercial success. SUMMARY:Circular economy\, whole life approaches and MMC
DESCRIPTION:The Constructing Excellence Offsite Manufacturing & Technology Group is holding an online meeting to consider the role of circular economy and whole life approaches and the role MMC has to play in this important area.  As we move to a more sustainable and net zero carbon society we need to consider the whole life implications of our buildings and assets.  As MMC makes it easier to design and construct buildings and assets we take a look at the whole life aspects of this and how MMC can contribute to a circular economy.  We will be joined by a panel of experts with in-depth knowledge of MMC and whole-life approaches: \n\nDr Flavie Lowres from BRE will share ongoing research around Buildings as Materials Banks\nJoanna Clarke from SPECIFIC will draw on their experience\, views of and challenges based on the life cycle cost comparison exercise undertaken for the Active Office Project

SUMMARY:How will COVID 19 impact Offsite Manufacturing & Technology?
DESCRIPTION:The world has been turned on its head in just 3 short weeks\, forcing us all to live and work differently. As we come to terms with our new reality it provides an opportunity to focus on what we want and need to change within our own organisations and the wider sector. \nThe Constructing Excellence Offsite Manufacturing & Technology Group proposes to hold an online forum to discuss how this time can be used to consider the opportunities to shape a better industry coming out of this crisis. Key issues for discussion include: \n• How could the current crisis transform offsite approaches? \n• How will it impact on the way in which companies approach construction? \n• How will it transform employees working patterns and the uptake of technologies? \nWe will be inviting members to share their insights around some of the key areas that this crisis has highlighted including\, numbers of operatives on sites\, safe working practices and remote working.

SUMMARY:Offsite Manufacturing & Technology - Visit to JLR
DESCRIPTION:I would like to invite you to the Constructing Excellence Offsite Manufacturing and Technology Group visit to the Jaguar Land Rover Castle Bromwich Facility. This visit in collaboration with the Construction Innovation Hub and with support from Tata Steel and Pinsent Masons provides an excellent opportunity to get behind the scenes at one of the most advanced automotive plants in Europe. Automotive is widely recognised as one of the industries that construction can learn most from and this visit will provide an opportunity to get under the skin of how automotive is applying advanced manufacturing techniques to improve productivity and quality. \nWe will also have an opportunity to gain insight into the Construction Innovation Hub’s Quality workstream which draws on experience from the automotive and aerospace sectors. Construction Quality Planning (CQP) applies to new construction products being produced and delivered at scale\, using manufacturing-led approaches. It is a quality toolset aimed at ensuring that components\, sub-assemblies or assemblies meet the required standards. \nWe do hope you will be able to join us. As you will appreciate numbers are strictly limited and we anticipate a high level of interest.  Please contact helpdesk@constructingexcellence.org.uk for further details.

SUMMARY:Offsite Manufacturing & Technology Group - Visit to Explore Industrial Park
DESCRIPTION:Explore Manufacturing offers a unique self-delivery capability that leads the construction industry in driving greater levels of design standardisation and construction quality. \nExplore Industrial Park (EIP) is Europe’s largest and most advanced preassembly manufacturing facility. EIP underpins our drive towards zero-carbon construction. Our DfMA philosophy allows us to challenge and change traditional techniques by driving out waste\, making the construction process safer\, more cost and time effective\, and ultimately more sustainable. \nOur extensive organisational infrastructure and in-house manufacturing capabilities allow an often complex set of building system components to be safely and responsibly manufactured and assembled in a controlled factory\nenvironment\, for onsite installation. \nTo book your place please email helpdesk@constructingexcellence.org.uk. \n
