Workshop: Safety Considerations around Supersized Structures
17 May @ 10:30 am - 3:30 pm BST
Constructing Excellence is partnering with the Lloyd’s Register Foundation to deliver a three-hour workshop on the safety of supersized structures.
In June 2017 the Lloyd’s Register Foundation published its insight report on global safety challenges. This report summarized perceived challenges to safety around the world, based on a survey of those working in industry and academia. In this report, the safety of supersized structures was highlighted as a global risk. The Foundation is keen to gain a better understanding of the safety challenges associated with supersized structures, including the following:
understand how, and what makes the safety challenges of supersized structures different from that of more conventional sized structures
determine which supersized structures present the greatest risk, and what it is about them that causes the greater risk e.g. materials, design, manufacture, construction, evacuation etc.
find out which companies or research organisations are active in addressing these risks
establish what practical steps can be taken to enhance the safety of these supersized structures and save lives
