Healthy Buildings and Wellness – Sustainability Theme Group

Sustainability considers the social, economic and environmental impact of the built environment.  How buildings and the wider built environment support the physical and mental wellbeing of their users and occupants is increasingly considered as a key part of sustainability.

This interactive session will explore the linkage between buildings and health and what factors that determine it.  It will include input from:

• Isabella Myers, a consultant on Health, Policy and the Environment with over 20 years experience on the health effects associated with environmental hazards in the indoor and outdoor environment.
• Anita Mitchell, Head of Sustainability – Europe for Lendlease will look at the developers perspective on healthy buildings and the leading work that Lendlease has been doing in this space.
• Martin Brown, who’s latest book FUTURESTORATIVE considers the emergence of a net positive and restorative sustainability, exploring the shift from an often blinkered focus on sustainability as simply energy performance to a more rounded social, wellness, health and healthy buildings debate.
• Alan Yates, Director of BREEAM who will discuss how wellness relates to BREEAM and the recent announcement of an alignment between the WELL Building Standard and BREEAM.
